Kitchen and Dining Space West Dulwich

The ground floor of this Edwardian family home had been extended 12 years previously and was ready for a refresh. Whilst the handmade wooden kitchen remained in very good condition, the kitchen and dining areas were in need of an updated look that would bring the spaces together more cohesively.

Rather than replacing the existing kitchen, the focus was on refurbishment, colour and lighting, allowing the original craftsmanship to remain an important part of the scheme.

The Brief
The aim was to update the kitchen and dining space whilst retaining and improving the existing handmade kitchen.

The dining room also required attention, with a new colour scheme and additional detailing needed to complement the refreshed kitchen. Lighting throughout the ground floor was another important part of the project.

The Design Challenge
The kitchen cabinetry was still in good condition, so the challenge was to transform the overall feel of the space without replacing it.

The dining room needed to feel more connected to the kitchen, whilst the ground floor as a whole would benefit from an updated lighting scheme.

Our Approach
The existing handmade wooden kitchen was refurbished and repainted in a rich dark blue, giving it a completely new look whilst retaining the quality of the original cabinetry.

In the dining room, new panelling was introduced throughout the space. An updated colour scheme was selected to complement the newly painted kitchen and create a stronger connection between the two areas.

A new lighting scheme was implemented throughout the entire ground floor, helping to unify the spaces and support the refreshed interiors.

The Result
The completed scheme demonstrates how an existing kitchen can be transformed through refurbishment rather than replacement.

The dark blue kitchen, new dining room panelling and updated lighting work together to create a more cohesive and characterful ground floor, while retaining the quality and craftsmanship of the original handmade kitchen.
