Rear Extension Penge
This charming cottage in Penge was in the the throes of a major build, swapping the ground floor bathroom and kitchen around and building out across the back-end to create more space in what was to be the new kitchen-diner. The owner had wanted to take this challenge on but knee-deep in building dust, no working bathroom and kitchen and a totally exposed ground floor back of house…..recognised that despite being confident in her own design style and an efficient decision maker, the needs of the build were hard to keep up with.
This project developed into a wonderful collaboration and a sharing of ideas and discussions through the inevitable challenges which are a constant part of a build.
With the bathroom now in the middle of the house, it was important to bring light into this space, so a window was added into the adjoining kitchen wall, making a wonderful feature and bringing light into the new bathroom. A pocket door to the bathroom made sure that the small corridor linking the front living room to the kitchen in the back, was kept free.
The new bathroom has brought an oasis of calm with it’s wonderful patterned bert&may floor tiles, coupled with herringbone wall tiles, a rich oak furnewal vanity for essential storage and ambient wall lighting.
The kitchen continues a rich theme with mushroom cabinets finished with antique brass hardware sitting next to green wall tiles, which work perfectly with a limestone floor. lights&lamps bring a lovely playful touch of softness with the pendants and the rowan&wren dining chairs set an elegant, yet relaxed scene for mealtimes.
