Why Samples Are Essential When Designing an Interior Scheme
One of the most important stages of interior design is sharing physical samples with clients alongside room schemes & layouts.
Here are 4 reasons why...
1. Colours can often look different on-line, so samples of paint, tiles and wallpaper must be viewed in the room and on the walls they are intended for as the different light levels will impact how the colour looks IRL.
2. Fabrics vary hugely from lightweight printed cottons to thick wovens and upholstered linens and can also look different on-line. The colours and patterns are obviously important but so too is texture and how it feels as this effects how the room feels.
3. Looking at samples alongside existing furniture and furnishings is crucial to make sure the room scheme is cohesive in terms of colour palette, style and feel.
4. Different tones of woods, metal colours and finishes can change the feel of a room from cool/modern (chrome & lighter woods) to warm/traditional (brass & darker woods).
When looking to renovate, design inspiration can be a great starting point but understanding how this translates into your home can be more complicated and mistakes can be costly. Room schemes are built on multiple elements including budget, timings, layouts that flow, functionality, size & proportion, colour, texture, pattern, style and illuminance. All working together to answer a brief. When rooms work properly, they support the nervous system, reduce cognitive load and promote relaxation.
If you have a room that could benefit from a cohesive scheme with samples to give you the confidence to move forward, then get in touch. I work with clients either in person or remotely.
