Reviving a vintage pair of bedroom chairs in West Dulwich, London SE21

These tub chairs date around the 1930s and when they were passed down to the current owners, they were upholstered in a white leather fabric with matching leather covered studs and a separate seat cushion. They were in need of quite a bit of TLC as many of the studs had come out over the years, were loose or very worn and the leather was ripped in a few places.

Once the upholsterers made a start, they uncovered the fabrics used by previous generations that had simply been upholstered over with the wood frame bearing the marks of decades of studs, removed and replaced.

Once the chairs were stripped back to their  frames, the original springs  and straw stuffing were removed and the wood was revived back to its original lustre!

The new fabrics chosen were an outer velvet with a bold geometric stripe by Romo and an inside plain velvet from Warwick, ready for a patterned cushion. Both velvets were finished with double piping, rather than studs and a new seat cushion trimmed with the matching single piping trim.
