Bringing colour to Victorian and Edwardian fireplaces as an opportunity to extend the cohesion of your design scheme.

Sometimes it feels there is no obvious colour for a room but a great place to start is looking at what’s already there and if you are lucky enough to have original fireplaces in a period property then these are a great place to start.

Victorian and Edwardian fireplaces were often decorated with ornate and colourful tiles, that can be a great source of inspirations for a room scheme.

Edwardian styles were typically simpler and less ornate than the earlier Victorian era, as this period denoted a shift towards a cleaner aesthetic. Art  Nouveau, floral and geometric patterns were among some of the popular designs and colours were often muted in tone and sometimes featured a mottled glaze or hand dipped effects.

The fireplace on the left is painted in F&B Bancha to match beautifully with the dark olive in the tiles. On the right, we used F&B Oval Room Blue, which picks up on the blue flowers in the design. In both rooms the mantle colour was used for some joinery and then a complimentary colour for the walls was added as per the below schemes.
